ZANZIBAR — Minister for Finance, Hon. Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar (MP), has called on contractors and supervising consultants implementing the Tungu–Makunduchi and Fumba–Kisauni road construction project to complete the works on schedule, meet agreed quality standards and remain within budget.

Ambassador Omar issued the directive in Zanzibar during the launch of the €137 million project, which comprises the 48-kilometre Tungu–Makunduchi road and the 12-kilometre Fumba–Kisauni road.

He stressed the importance of complying with contractual obligations, quality standards and implementation timelines to ensure successful completion without unplanned cost increases.

“I call on contractors and supervising consultants to deliver this project on time, to the quality standards we have agreed upon and without exceeding the budget,” Ambassador Omar said.

He emphasised that supervising consultants have a responsibility to monitor implementation closely and ensure that all works comply with contractual provisions and established standards.

Ambassador Omar also expressed sincere appreciation to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, and the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, H.E. Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, for their continued leadership in advancing development projects across Unguja and Pemba.

He commended the two leaders for their efforts to strengthen Zanzibar’s development, noting that their leadership continues to lay the foundation for projects that benefit citizens.

“We are deeply grateful for the substantial work they have undertaken,” he said.

The Minister also thanked development partners and financiers whose contributions have supported the projects, including partners from the United Kingdom, the World Bank, Citibank and other stakeholders working with the Government to advance development in Zanzibar.
