DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania — 15 October 2026 — Tanzania and Türkiye are seeking to expand trade and investment cooperation towards a US$1 billion bilateral trade target, following talks between Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, and a delegation from the Turkish Independent Industrialists and Businessmen’s Association (MÜSİAD).

The meeting, held in Dar es Salaam on October 15, 2026, brought together Minister Kombo and a MÜSİAD delegation led by the association’s Vice President, Mr. Selim Başdemir, to explore opportunities for strengthening economic partnerships between the two countries.

The discussions formed part of efforts to advance the bilateral trade target established by Tanzanian President H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan and Turkish President H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during President Samia’s state visit to Türkiye in 2024.

Minister Kombo welcomed the Turkish business delegation and emphasised the importance of private-sector partnerships in expanding trade, attracting investment and supporting industrial development.

He identified manufacturing, agriculture, energy, infrastructure and tourism as priority sectors offering opportunities for Turkish investment in Tanzania.

The Minister also encouraged MÜSİAD member companies to explore investment opportunities in animal feed production, agricultural value addition, pharmaceutical and healthcare-related manufacturing, and the production of construction materials.

These sectors are considered important to Tanzania’s efforts to expand domestic production, strengthen industrial capacity and promote value-added economic activities.

For its part, the MÜSİAD delegation expressed readiness to explore investment projects in Tanzania and encourage its members to establish partnerships with Tanzanian private-sector businesses.

The association indicated its interest in promoting commercial cooperation that could support investment flows, industrial development and employment opportunities.

MÜSİAD is one of Türkiye’s major business and industrial associations, with more than 14,000 members representing approximately 60,000 companies and businesses collectively supporting around two million jobs, according to figures provided during the engagement.

Its extensive business network offers potential opportunities to connect Tanzanian enterprises with Turkish manufacturers, investors and commercial partners.

The latest discussions reflect continued efforts by Tanzania and Türkiye to translate their diplomatic relations into stronger economic cooperation, with particular emphasis on private-sector engagement and investment in productive industries.

Both sides view closer cooperation as a potential means of expanding bilateral trade, creating employment opportunities and strengthening long-term economic ties between the two countries.
