Tanzania is advancing its digital transformation agenda and seeking international investment in emerging technologies at the Global AI and Digital Summit 2026, taking place in Seoul, South Korea, from 19 to 22 October 2026.

The Tanzanian delegation is led by the Deputy Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Dr. Switbert Zacharia Mkama, who is participating in high-level discussions on artificial intelligence (AI), digital innovation, economic growth and the development of inclusive digital public services.

The summit brings together government leaders, technology experts, investors and development partners to explore how AI and digital technologies can drive economic growth, create employment opportunities and improve public service delivery.

Tanzania Seeks Investment in Nala Techno Valley

A key priority for Tanzania at the summit is attracting investors and development partners for the proposed Nala Techno Valley in Dodoma, a strategic initiative aimed at positioning the country as a regional hub for technology, research and digital innovation.

The project is planned for approximately 400 acres of land allocated by the Government in Nala, Dodoma, and is expected to support the development of artificial intelligence, robotics, data processing, technology startups and digital skills training.

The proposed innovation hub is intended to strengthen Tanzania's digital ecosystem, encourage technology-driven entrepreneurship, attract investment and expand employment opportunities for young people.

Tanzania Advances Kiswahili Artificial Intelligence Development

Speaking during a session on Public AI and Digital Services, Dr. Mkama highlighted Tanzania's efforts to develop artificial intelligence solutions tailored to local needs and national development priorities.

He revealed that Tanzania has begun developing a Kiswahili Large Language Model (LLM), an initiative intended to make AI technologies more accessible and relevant to Kiswahili-speaking communities.

The initiative seeks to expand the application of artificial intelligence in education, healthcare, agriculture and public service delivery while strengthening the representation of Kiswahili in the global digital landscape.

Strengthening International Digital Partnerships

Dr. Mkama reaffirmed Tanzania's commitment to engaging international development partners, technology companies and investors to mobilize financing, technical expertise and technology for digital transformation initiatives.

Through its participation in the Global AI and Digital Summit 2026, Tanzania aims to strengthen international cooperation, accelerate digital innovation, attract strategic investments and create new opportunities for young people in the technology sector.

The engagement forms part of the country's broader efforts to build a competitive, inclusive and innovation-driven digital economy.
